EXERCISE – 1
The aim of education is to bring about a complete development of the personality of the body. It is to train him physically, mentally and morally so that he may develop into a fine gentleman. Education fails in its purpose if it gives only bookish knowledge to let the boy merely get through his examination. The boy, when he leaves the college, must feel active, healthy, vigorous and fit for practical duties of life.
TRANSLATION
शिक्षा का उद्देश्य शरीर के व्यक्तित्व का पूर्ण विकास करना है| यह उसे शारीरिक, मानसिक और नैतिक रूप से प्रशिक्षित करना है ताकि वह एक अच्छे सज्जन के रूप में विकसित हो सके| शिक्षा अपने उद्देश्य में विफल हो जाती है, यदि वह केवल किताबी ज्ञान देती है ताकि लड़के को केवल उसकी परीक्षा में सफलता मिल सके| जब वह कॉलेज छोड़ता है, उसे जीवन के व्यावहारिक कर्तव्यों के लिए सक्रिय, स्वस्थ, जोशीला और फिट महसूस करना चाहिए|
EXERCISE – 2
After Rahul had gone some distance, he found a mongoose by the side of a pool. He picked up the mongoose and put it in the coat pocket. After a while he remembered an advice that one should never travel alone, and picking up the mongoose he put into his coat pocket. By now he was tried, and seeing a shady tree he sat down under it. He took out his food and after eating lay down with mongoose beside him to sleep.
TRANSLATION
जब राहुल कुछ दूर चला गया, तो उसे एक तालाब के किनारे एक नेवला मिला| उसने उस नेवले को उठाकर अपने कोट की जेब मे रख लिया| थोड़ी देर बाद उसे एक सलाह याद आ गई कि कभी भी अकेले यात्रा नहीं करनी चाहिए और अपने कोट के जेब में रखे नेवले को निकाल लेना चाहिए| अब तक वह कोशिश कर चुका था और एक छायादार पेड़ को देखकर वह उसके नीचे बैठ गया| उसने अपना खाना निकाला और खाने के बाद उसके बगल मे नेवले के साथ सोने के लिए लेट गया|
EXERCISE – 3
When Sahil was a little boy, his father gave him an axe to play with. Sahil was overjoyed to get the axe. He went to the garden with it. There he cut down many plants with an axe. When his father went to the garden in the evening and saw the plants falling, he got very angry. He asked his son, “Sahil, who has done this?” Sahil said with tears in his eyes, “Father, I cannot lie. I have done all this.” Father was very pleased with Sahil that he spoke the truth. He took his in his arms. Loved him and immediately forgave.
TRANSLATION
जब साहिल छोटा लड़का था, तो उसके पिता ने उसे खेलने के लिए एक कुल्हाड़ी दी| साहिल उसे पाकर बड़ा खुश हुआ | वह उसे लेकर अपने बाग में गया| वहाँ उसने कुल्हाड़ी से कई पौधों को काट डाला| सांयकाल जब उसके पिता बाग में गए और पौधों को गिरा देखा तो उन्हें बड़ा क्रोध आया| उन्होंने अपने पुत्र से पूछा, “साहिल यह किसने किया है?” आँखों में आँसू भरकर साहिल ने कहा, “पिताजी मैं झूठ नहीं बोल सकता, यह सब मैंने किया है |” पिताजी साहिल से बहुत प्रसन्न थे कि वह सत्य बोला | उन्होंने उसे गोद में उठा लिया | उसको प्यार किया और उसे तुरंत क्षमा कर दिया |
EXERCISE – 4
Once Alexander the Great caught a leader of the bandits. The entire subjects of the state were afraid of that robber. When that chief was brought in front of Sikandar, Sikandar said to him, “how should you be treated You have caused unnecessary. I can’t forgive you.” The chief of dacoits said, a dacoit does not apologize to another dacoit. Sikandar said, “am I a robber.” The chief said, “Undoubtedly, the work which I have done in a small amount, you have done the work on a large scale. If I have looted people, then you have looted the states. The only difference is that I am your prisoner at the moment, but after I die, we will both be on the same line before God.” Alexander freed the chief.
TRANSLATION
एक बार सिकंदर महान ने डाकुओं के एक सरदार को पकड़ा | राज्य की सम्पूर्ण प्रजा उस डाकू से भयभीत थी | जब वह सरदार सिकंदर के सामने लाया गया तो सिकंदर ने उससे कहा, “तुम्हारे साथ कैसा व्यवहार किया जाये? तुमने मेरी प्रजा को अकारण दुख दिया है। मैं तुम्हें क्षमा नहीं कर सकता |” डाकुओं के सरदार ने कहा, “एक डाकू दूसरे डाकू से क्षमा नहीं मांगा करता है|” सिकंदर ने कहा, “क्या मैं डाकू हूँ|” सरदार ने कहा, “निःसन्देह ! जो कार्य मैंने अल्प मात्रा में किया है, वही कार्य आपने बड़े स्तर पर किया है| यदि मैंने व्यक्तियों को लूटा है तो आपने राज्यों को| केवल अन्तर यह है कि मैं इस समय आपका कैदी हूँ| किन्तु मरने के बाद ईश्वर के सामने हम दोनों एक ही पंक्ति में होंगे|” सिकंदर ने उस सरदार को मुक्त कर दिया|
EXERCISE – 5
There lived a widow in a village. She had two girls Mahima and Garima. Mahima was her real daughter and Garima was her step daughter. The widow’s real daughter is dull and idol, but the step daughter was smart and intelligent. Her step daughter was always engaged in her work and used to work very hard. She happily did the toughest work. She was very kind and God fearing and she used to help other people and also do their work herself. Due to this she became very popular and people used to look at her with love and affection.
TRANSLATION
किसी गाँव में एक विधवा रहती थी| उसकी दो लड़कियाँ महिमा और गरिमा थीं| महिमा उसकी सगी लड़की थी और गरिमा सौतेली लड़की थी| विधवा कि सगी लड़की सुस्त और मूर्ख थी परंतु सौतेली लड़की चतुर और समझदार थी| उसकी सौतेली लड़की सदा अपने काम में लगी रहती थी और बहुत परिश्रम किया करती थी| वह कड़े से कड़ा काम प्रसन्नतापूर्वक करती थी| वह बहुत दयालु और ईश्वर से डरने वाली थी और वह दूसरे लोगों की सहायता करती थी और स्वंय उनका काम भी करती थी| इस कारण वह बहुत लोकप्रिय हो गयी थी और लोग उसे प्रेम और स्नेह से देखते थे|
